Allegrone Co. to Restore New York State Capitol's Eastern Approach

March 13, 2025

The New York State Capitol's Eastern Approach is set for a major restoration starting early this summer. As the General and Masonry Contractor, Allegrone Co. aims to restore the structure's stability and resistance to harsh weather.

The Eastern Approach, a grand staircase leading from East Capitol Park to the Capitol's second floor, has been closed for nearly a decade due to structural damage from water infiltration. Signs of instability appeared in the 1920s, and concrete piers were added in the 1950s for support. However, ongoing moisture and freeze-thaw cycles have continued to cause deterioration over the years.

This extensive renovation will address structural damage caused by water infiltration and deterioration, and include improvements to the north and south promenades, executive drive, and east portico. The staircase will undergo significant rehabilitation to enhance public safety and preserve its historic nature.
