Great Barrington’s New Affordable Housing Complex is now Complete

State officials and community members celebrated the opening of Windrush Commons in Great Barrington, MA. Co-developed by Community Development Corp. of South Berkshire and Way Finders, this 49-unit complex offers one- to three-bedroom apartments and townhomes, now managed by Berkshire Housing Development Corp. Windrush Commons was designed by Architect Nick Elton, and built by Allegrone Companies, who served as Construction Managers for the project.

Windrush Commons is described as “thoughtfully designed, with a neighborly vibe”. The dignified, energy-efficient homes are spread over a meticulously landscaped, 2-acre property with a green common. The central walkway serves as the “spine” of the community, encouraging people to interact while providing privacy for those who seek it.

Since the opening, 49 families now have a place to call home, while 163 families are on the waiting list. The development attracted over 300 applicants before its completion, underscoring the high demand for affordable housing in the Berkshires.
